If God chose us, does that mean we have no free choice?
No. God's choosing and adoption are according to His will, not human will, but that does not take away free choice. The Spirit draws a person to the Father, and that person must respond. God makes the first move; the individual responds, though not always immediately or as quickly as they should.
Les explains that being adopted is according to the good pleasure of God's will, just as Paul became an apostle not by his own will but by God's will. Likewise, we become children of God not by our will but by God's will. Yet Les says this does not take away our free choice, because no one comes to the Father except the Spirit draws him. In Acts 16, a favorite passage, the point is that it was not our idea; God made the first move, and we responded. We may not have responded as quickly as we should have, but at least we finally did when God wooed us.
No man can come to me, except the Father which hath sent me draw him: and I will raise him up at the last day.
