Who is baptized by the Holy Spirit?

Every believer is baptized by the Holy Spirit at the moment they believe the Gospel. This baptism is not limited to the clergy, priests, or a few especially spiritual people; all members of the body of Christ have been baptized by the one Spirit. The Holy Spirit inundates them, placing them into Christ.

Les teaches from I Corinthians 12 that the body of Christ is made up of all believers who have come into it since the beginning of the Church Age. In verse 13, by one Spirit—the Holy Spirit—we all, not just a few of the most spiritual, not just the clergy or priests, but every believer, have been baptized. Les explains that “baptized” means to be inundated, completely inundated. A Greek classical writer spoke of a ship being baptized at sea; the ocean water filled every crook and cranny as it sank. This baptism is not water, but the invisible person of the Godhead, the Holy Spirit, who has inundated us in Christ. Les says the Holy Spirit inundates us the moment we believe the Gospel, and you don’t feel a thing.

1 Corinthians 12:13

For by one Spirit are we all baptized into one body, whether we be Jews or Gentiles, whether we be bond or free; and have been all made to drink into one Spirit.
