Why should believers get out of the four Gospels and into Paul's writings?
Believers should move from the four Gospels into Paul's writings because the Gospels remain largely Jewish and belong to a program God has set aside for the Age of Grace. Paul's prison epistles reveal deeper church truths where Jew and Gentile are one in Christ, with no distinction and no Old Testament reference, through progressive revelation.
Les teaches that people have to get out of the four Gospels and get into Paul's writing because the four Gospels are still 90% Jewish, and that has been set aside and is no longer in God's program. This does not mean throwing the Gospels away, any more than the Old Testament is thrown away. Les compares saying, "I go by what Jesus says," to going back to Leviticus 5 and taking a sacrifice to the altar at the temple. Instead, these things must be put into perspective of the unfolding and progressive revelation, even of Paul's letters. In the prison epistles of Ephesians, Philippians, and Colossians, God is no longer making reference to the Jew or to the Old Testament, and there is no dividing between Jew and Gentile.
