What happened to Paul after the Romans took him under their wing?
He appealed to Caesar and ended up in Rome waiting for justice under house arrest. Jewish leaders came to meet him there; after he spoke, they disagreed among themselves and departed, and he cited Isaiah's words about hearing but not understanding.
Les explains that after the Romans took Paul under their wing, he had to appeal to Caesar, and so he was in Rome waiting for justice to be meted out. While there under house arrest, Jewish leaders in Rome came to meet with him. When they agreed not among themselves, they departed; they couldn't agree on anything. After Paul had spoken one word, he went back to the Old Testament and said the Holy Spirit spoke well by Isaiah: "Go to this people, and say, Hearing you shall hear, and not understand." The context also notes that his own people had constantly been after his life, trying to kill him and upset his ministry, yet he never lost his love for his kinsmen according to the flesh.
