What happened to Paul at Philippi?
At Philippi, Paul became deathly sick there and despaired of life itself, believing his ministry had ended. This affliction was heaped on him by satanic forces, after the pressure from Ephesian persecutors and an anxious wait at Troas for Titus.
Les explains that Paul had been under great pressure from the persecutors at Ephesus, then went to Troas hoping to meet Titus. He had no rest in his spirit because he did not find Titus, and there was no way for Titus to communicate that he could not make it. After waiting a few days and ministering to the people at Troas, Paul finally went on his way, not knowing what had happened to Titus. From there he went up to Philippi, clear up in northern Greece. Les suggests it was probably at Philippi that Paul became so deathly sick that he despaired of life itself and thought his ministry had come to an end. Les indicates that all of this was heaped on Paul by satanic forces.
