Why does our nation not turn to God when troubles come?
The general population never considers that God might be involved in national dilemmas or trying to get their attention. He is so far removed from the majority’s thinking that it does not bother them. Like ancient Israel, they are blinded by idolatry and false worship, never entering their minds that the God of Abraham is displeased.
Les explains that Israel in Jeremiah 44 was steeped in idolatry and heresy, worshiping a female goddess, and thought their problems came because they were not doing enough to please her. It never entered their minds that the God of Abraham was displeased with them. Les sees the same pattern now: when dilemmas come upon our nation, a few leaders may still call for prayer, but the general population never thinks God has anything to do with it or is trying to get their attention. He is so far removed from the majority’s thinking that it does not bother them. The same idolatrous blindness and false worship are increasing today.
