Are Christians under legalistic demands for salvation?

No. Believers are not under the system of law or any legalistic demands for salvation; salvation is entirely by grace through faith plus nothing else. Adding works or requirements detracts from Christ's finished work on the cross. God justifies, forgives, sanctifies, and glorifies those who believe it is a finished transaction.

Les explains that the book of Galatians shows we are not under the system of law or any kind of legalistic demands for our salvation. Salvation is all of grace by faith plus nothing else; any attempt to add to it takes away from the finished work of the cross. God's dealing with us in grace requires believing that He did everything that needs to be done. The Galatians were tempted to go back under legalism, which at that time was prompted by the Jews and involved circumcision. For us today, circumcision is not so much the criteria, but it is all the other things people try to tell us we have to do besides believing the Gospel.
