What is the Adamic nature according to John 3:19-20?
According to John 3:19–20, the Adamic nature is humanity’s inclination to love darkness rather than light, hate the light, and refuse to come to it because deeds are evil. It is human nature to run from God and hide, as Adam and Eve did, and it has never changed.
Les explains that John 3:19–20 describes the Adamic nature: the condemnation is that light has come into the world, but men loved darkness rather than light because their deeds were evil. Everyone who does evil hates the light and will not come to the light, lest his deeds be reproved. Les ties this to Adam in Genesis chapter 3, where Adam and Eve had sowed fig leaves, thought their nakedness was covered, then hid when they heard the Lord in the garden. They did not want to meet God, and that has never changed. Les says this is human nature—to run from God—and mankind will always run from God. Yet God pursues sinful men; Les cites Martin Luther’s expression “the hound of heaven,” because the hound pursues until he finally has his quarry.
And this is the condemnation, that light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil.
