What is the current status of the old Adamic nature in a believer?

The old Adamic nature remains present in the believer, so it must still be wrestled against. God has reckoned it crucified and declared it dead, yet in experience it continues with us. However, it is defeated and placed under the subjection of the new nature given by God’s power.

Les teaches that Paul explains this from the believer’s point of view. The believer still has to wrestle against the influence of the old Adamic nature, even though God has reckoned it as crucified and declared it dead. In experience, that nature is still with us, but it is defeated and has been placed under subjection to the new nature that came in by the power of God. This is why the struggle described in verse 15—doing what one does not allow, not doing what one would, and doing what one hates—is not ultimately confusing. It reflects the conflict between the two natures, and Les points to Galatians 5:16–17 to clarify it further.
