Has anyone ever been able to keep the whole law of God?
Scripture teaches that only Christ Himself kept the whole Law; no one else has ever been able to keep it, for it is impossible. Anyone who seeks salvation by circumcision or legalistic works becomes a debtor to the whole Law, and then Christ profits them nothing.
Les explains that if a person uses circumcision as a legalistic requirement for salvation, adding it to the Gospel, that man is a debtor to do the whole Law. He asks how many men down through history have ever done it, and answers that only one did—Christ Himself. No one has ever been able to keep the whole Law; it is impossible. So legalism is barking up a wrong tree. Salvation is not gained by doing something, nor by believing Christ died for you while adding works you must do. If you do that, Christ profits you nothing, because God is jealous of what He accomplished on our behalf. At the cross He finished every single demand of God on a sinful person, and He takes away all guilt the moment a person believes Christ died and rose from the dead.
For I testify again to every man that is circumcised, that he is a debtor to do the whole law.
