Does my salvation depend on how much I love God?

Salvation does not depend on the strength or amount of your love for God. Scripture shows it rests on how much He loved us—enough to die for us and suffer for us. Believers are not given a spirit of fear but are assured by the Holy Spirit that they are God’s children.

Les explains that salvation is not dependent on how much we love God, although believers certainly will love Him. The important thing is realizing how much He loved us—enough to die for us and suffer for us. He points to John chapter 13, where Jesus dealt with Martha, Mary, and Lazarus, noting it was not how much they loved Jesus but how much He loved them. Les also teaches that believers have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear; we respect and revere God but do not have to fear Him because we know He loves us. The Holy Spirit bears witness with our spirit that we are the children of God, so we can know we have passed from death unto life, contrary to those who say you can never really know.
