What lie has Satan convinced millions of people to believe about keeping the law?
Satan has convinced millions that if they do the best they can and keep the law as much as possible, they will somehow make it. Scripture says no flesh is justified by deeds of the law; the law only reveals sin, and redemption comes through faith in the shed blood of Calvary.
Les explains from verse 20 that all law keeping, good works, and legalism will be for nothing, because by the deeds of the law no flesh will be justified in His sight. The law cannot give the knowledge of salvation; it only shows mankind their sinfulness. Such efforts may be good enough in man's sight, but they will never cut it under the scrutinizing eyes of the Lord Jesus. Les says Satan has counterfeited the issue, convincing millions—probably billions—that if they do the best they can and keep the law at least as much as possible, they will somehow make it. They refuse to see what the book says: they are never going to make it by keeping the law, because by the keeping of the law no flesh is justified. Redemption must be experienced by having faith placed in the shed blood of Calvary.
Therefore by the deeds of the law there shall no flesh be justified in his sight: for by the law is the knowledge of sin.
