What did God do with Israel after the nation appeared?

After the nation of Israel appeared, God placed them under the law, a totally different economy from the previous fifteen hundred years. He gave the Ten Commandments, established the priesthood and temple ritual, and explicitly prescribed everything for their spiritual and everyday lives, including what they could and could not do and eat.

Les explains that after God's promises to Abraham took five hundred years to come to fruition, the nation of Israel made its appearance. Then God did something again totally different: He put them under the law. Les emphasizes this was something totally different from anything that had happened in the previous fifteen hundred years. God set down the Ten Commandments, put down the priesthood, the temple, and all of its ritual, and told Israel by explicit instruction everything they were to do. This covered not only their spiritual life but also their everyday life of living. Everything was now prescribed and laid down—what they could not do, what they could eat, and what they could not eat. Les stresses that this was all different.
