How did God bring about the nation of Israel?

God brought about the nation of Israel by a sovereign act, not by accident. He pulled Abraham, first called Abram, out of the mainstream of humanity and promised him the nation of Israel. This divine selection and promise established Israel as a distinct nation.

Les explains that after the tower of Babel, where God scattered humanity and confusion resulted, another 200 years passed. Then God did something totally different: He sovereignly pulled Abraham—first called Abram—out of the mainstream of humanity. This was not accidental. By an act of a sovereign God, He promised Abram the nation of Israel, bringing it about through that divine selection.
