When did Abram leave Haran and go to Canaan?

Abram was seventy-five years old when he left Haran for Canaan, and this occurred after his father Terah died. Scripture places his departure after Terah’s death, with Lot and Sarai going with him. That move down into Canaan marks the start of the 430 years until the Exodus.

Les explains that Abram originally left Ur and migrated up to the Euphrates Valley to Haran in Syria. They stopped at Haran until Terah died; Terah was not supposed to have left with him but did. After Terah died, Abram, Lot, and Sarai were ready to move down into the land of Canaan. Les points out that when Abram left Haran he was seventy-five. This was twenty-five years after the promise, and still there was no child. Les also notes that the 430 years begin from Abram’s departure from Haran and arrival in Canaan until Moses led the children out in the Exodus. The 400 years run from when Isaac was five and Ishmael was sent away. There is no contradiction; it is a matter of a time benchmark.
