Where did God tell Abram to go when he left Ur?

God instructed Abram to leave Ur and his family and go to a place He would show him later, which ultimately proved to be the land of Canaan. Abram did not receive the destination at the initial call; God revealed it afterward as part of His purpose for Abram.

Les explains that God called Abram out of the midst of idolatry, at a time when the whole human race was steeped in paganism and no one had a knowledge of the one true God. God saw in Abram a potential for faith, revealed Himself to him, and told him to leave Ur and his family and go to a place that He would show him later. That place ended up being the land of Canaan. This calling of Abram marked the beginning of how the nation of Israel came to be.
