Les Feldick Bible Study

What country and city was Abram told to leave in Genesis, and where was it located?

Abram was told to leave his country and specifically Ur of the Chaldees, which lay down at the lower reaches of the Euphrates River, just a few miles from the Persian Gulf. God also called him to leave his father's house and kindred for a land God would show him.

Les teaches that God reached down and put His finger on one man, Abram, later Abraham, and said, 'Get thee out of thy country.' He clarifies that this meant leaving Ur of the Chaldees, located at the lower reaches of the Euphrates River, just a few miles from the Persian Gulf. God also told Abram to leave his father's house and kindred and go to a land He would show him, without telling him where. Abram, a man of faith, took God at His Word, did not ask questions or demand a map or deed, and simply followed. However, Les points out that Abram was not totally obedient, because he took his father and his nephew Lot with him, which God could not let continue for very long.
