What promise to Abraham is guaranteed no matter what happens to nations?
The secure promise is that through the man Abraham all nations of the earth would receive a blessing. This was fulfilled when Christ came and finished the work of the cross, becoming a blessing out of Abraham’s line for the whole human race.
Les explains that the covenant promise remains: God will bless those who bless the nation of Israel, those out of the seed of Abraham, and curse those who curse them. He points to Spain as an example: after Ferdinand and Isabella’s decree against the Jews in 1492, Spain declined, showing that empires which turn on the Jew go down. Yet however things go, one promise is secure—that through the man Abraham all the nations of the earth would receive a blessing. That came about with their Messiah: when Christ came and finished the work of the cross, He became a blessing out of Abraham’s line for the whole human race. Les also connects this to Romans 11, where natural Israel’s branches were broken off and the Gentiles were grafted in.
