How did Paul keep from being turned aside by the immorality of the Roman Empire?
Paul kept from being turned aside by continually preaching the Gospel. Though he was constantly in the midst of the immoral remains of the Roman Empire, he never let it turn his mind aside; instead, he endured hardship and traveled to carry the Gospel to the ends of the Roman Empire.
Les explains that Paul did not have an easy path; unlike Abraham, he suffered greatly. During a recent trip across the Mediterranean Sea, the thought was of Paul bouncing around on a little boat no bigger than a cork, yet doing it all for the sake of the Gospel to get it out to the ends of the Roman Empire. Even while constantly in the midst of the immoral remains of that empire, Paul never let it turn his mind aside—he just preached the Gospel. Les calls this quite a revelation and a lesson. The Gospel Paul preached centered on the blessings of Abraham coming to the Gentiles through the finished work of the cross through Jesus Christ, the promise of the Holy Spirit received through faith, without works of the law.
