Why did Paul keep pressing on throughout the Roman Empire with the gospel of grace?
Paul pressed on throughout the Roman Empire with the gospel of grace because he was dead to the Law through the Law, that he might live unto God. He could not go back on the Lord’s revelations, and the Law, though perfect from God’s viewpoint, was weak and beggarly from man’s because it had no power to enable obedience.
Les explains that this is Paul’s whole reason for pressing on constantly throughout the Roman Empire with the Gospel of the grace of God. Paul could not go back on the revelations the Lord had given him. In verse 19, Paul says, “For I through the law am dead to the law, that I may live unto God,” which Les ties to Romans 7. The Law was perfect, the very mind of God, and perfect from God’s point of view. But from man’s point of view it was weak and beggarly, because man could not keep it; there was no power in the Law to help him keep it. Les illustrates that God gave it on stone, which is cold and not cuddly. Thus Paul pressed on in grace because he was dead to the Law and alive unto God, not returning to the Law.
For I through the law am dead to the law, that I might live unto God.
