What did God promise Israel at Mount Sinai in Exodus 19 if they were obedient?
At Mount Sinai, God promised Israel that if they would be obedient, He would make them a Kingdom of Priests. This meant every Jew could have been a go-between between the Gentile world and their God, serving as priests to the nations. Israel later rejected the Messiah and that opportunity.
Les explains that Exodus chapter 19 records Israel gathered around Sinai, where God told them that if they would be obedient, He would make of them a Kingdom of Priests. Les makes a big deal of this, teaching that every Jew could have been a go-between between the Gentile world and their God. What a prospect! But Israel blew it and dropped the ball. When she rejected the Messiah, she also rejected that glorious opportunity of being a Kingdom of Priests to the Gentile world. Yet God did not stop. Paul can write that Gentiles have received the blessing of Abraham directly through the Lord Jesus Christ, not through Israel. We do not have to wait for Israel to get her act together or for a Jew to come to our community. God went straight to the pagan world with the message of salvation without Israel as a go-between.
