What did God promise Israel at Mount Sinai if they obeyed the Law?

God promised Israel that obedience to the Law and the covenant given at Mount Sinai would make them a nation of priests or go-betweens, a light to the Gentiles. They would serve as His channel to funnel salvation into the Gentile world. This was a valid offer even though God knew the nation would fall short.

Les explains that Isaiah 49 shows God’s intention for Israel to become a nation of go-betweens, or priests. Remember, God had told them in Exodus that if they were obedient to the Law—the covenant He was giving at Mount Sinai—they would be His channel to funnel salvation into the Gentile world sometime down the road. Isaiah 49:6 calls Israel to be a light to the Gentiles, raising up the tribes of Jacob and restoring the preserved of Israel. Les notes these were valid offers even though God knew the nation would fall far short.
