Who is the Head of the Church?
God the Son, Christ, is the Head of the Church. Colossians 1 presents Him as the Head of the Body, the Church, who is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead, so that in all things He might have the preeminence.
Les explains that this passage in Colossians 1 is speaking of God the Son, who is the image of the invisible God and the firstborn of every creature. He is before all things, and by Him all things consist or are held together. As the Head of the Body, the Church, He is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead, referring to His resurrection. This gives Him preeminence in all things, and it pleased the Father that in Christ all fullness should dwell. The members of the Godhead are co-equal, not one above the other.
And he is the head of the body, the church: who is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead; that in all things he might have the preeminence.
