Who gets the glory when a man preaches — the man or God?

God receives the glory when a man preaches. The preacher is only an instrument used by God; without the power of the Holy Spirit and the power of God, even the apostle Paul would have accomplished nothing. Therefore anyone who boasts should glory in the Lord, not in the human messenger.

Les explains that the glory in preaching belongs entirely to God, because God is the one using the man. The man may be a willing instrument, but without the power of the Holy Spirit, even the apostle Paul would have accomplished nothing. Paul’s exhortation, “he that glorieth, let him glory in the LORD,” applies to every believer, including Sunday school teachers, television teachers, and those teaching classes in church or home. The point is basic to all who teach: the messenger is not the source of the power or fruit.
