What is the main source of most preaching today, and is that a problem?

Most preaching today is drawn primarily from Christ’s earthly ministry. That is not inherently wrong: the context says there is nothing wrong with a certain amount of it, and believers must understand Bethlehem and the virgin birth. The issue arises when most preaching remains there rather than moving beyond knowing Christ after the flesh.

Les teaches that most preaching today comes from Christ’s earthly ministry. He says there is nothing wrong with a certain amount of that and agrees we must understand the story of Bethlehem and the virgin birth. Yet he asks people to analyze most preaching in light of II Corinthians 5:16, where the apostle writes that henceforth we know no man after the flesh, and though we have known Christ in the flesh, yet henceforth we know Him no more. The contrast shows that preaching should not stay only in Christ’s earthly ministry.
