What has God committed to us as believers?
God has committed to believers the word of reconciliation, entrusting them to tell a lost world that the work of the cross has made reconciliation with God possible. Everything needed for forgiveness has already been accomplished by Jesus Christ, and believers are to announce that completed work to others.
Les teaches that all things are of God, who has reconciled us to Himself by Jesus Christ and has given to us the ministry of reconciliation. In verse 19, God was in Christ reconciling the world unto Himself, not imputing their trespasses. So far as the reconciliation of lost man and forgiveness are concerned, it is already accomplished. Since Jesus paid it all, Les points out the waste of adding our own works. He has committed unto us, as believers, the word of reconciliation, meaning we are to let a lost world know everything already done on their behalf.
To wit, that God was in Christ, reconciling the world unto himself, not imputing their trespasses unto them; and hath committed unto us the word of reconciliation.
