What has God predestinated believers to?
God has predestinated believers unto adoption as children by Jesus Christ to Himself. This position places them equal with Christ as joint heirs, right with Christ in the body and in Christ, in an elevated position in the heavenlies. It is all by God's grace, given immediately at salvation rather than after a long period of training.
Les explains that in Greek and Roman society, adoption meant a father trained his young son in the attributes of his particular business so that when the son became of age, he could come alongside the father and have full responsibility. For believers, however, the moment they are saved they do not have to go through a whole long period of training and preparation. God immediately positions them equal with Christ the Son as a joint heir. This is all by virtue of the grace of God, which predestinated them to that glorious position of being right with Christ in the body, and in Christ, and in that elevated position in the heavenlies. So they are predestinated unto the adoption of children by Jesus Christ to Himself, immediately placed as the tutored child was with his father.
