Who can bridge the gulf between God and man?
Only God can bridge the gulf between God and man. Man cannot make reconciliation; God must do it. The Work of the Cross brought reconciliation to man and God, restoring what sin had separated. This reconciliation is entirely God's provision, not something man can achieve.
Les explains that sin entered and man and God were suddenly totally separated and alienated. What once was together is now totally separated, and this great gulf between God and man has to be bridged, and only God can do it. Man can't make reconciliation; God has to. The Work of the Cross has brought in reconciliation to man and God. Les also points to Romans chapter 3, where Paul refers to it, and the first step of faith for the lost person is to believe what God says about their condition—that they are breakers of God's Law and can do nothing pleasing in His sight. There, it says all have sinned and come short of the glory of God. That blanket statement can't be overcome any other way but by believing the Gospel.
