Who does God use?
God uses ordinary, commonplace people whom the world scoffs at and dismisses, not those relying on fleshly credentials, personality, looks, voice, or intelligence. He starts with nothing, using unimpressive people so that His call, not human ability, is what matters.
Les explains that people often look at Paul's journeys and preaching and assume he had great courage, but Paul was very commonplace and shook in his boots entering strange places, just as we would. Paul's speech and preaching were not with enticing words. Les stresses that you do not need ten degrees behind your name to be something for God. God uses the things the world looks at and scoffs at, asking who does he or she think they are; that is precisely the person God can use. Les illustrates with a young man attending a great Bible school for the ministry who had personality, looks, voice, and intelligence. His classmates voted him most likely to succeed, and he got a little church, but within six months he was out of the ministry because he was relying on the things of the flesh and not on the real call of God. So for Sunday school teaching or any kind of God's service, always remember that the only thing God can start with is nothing.
