What does God expect from Christians in terms of living for Him?

God expects Christians to live for Him as fully as they are able, following His guidance and direction. Believers should not settle for merely escaping hell and reaching heaven; they must be concerned with His will. Although trials and suffering come to all, God remains with His people.

Les explains that God does expect us to live for Him as much as is within us, and as He gives us guidance and direction to do so. He says Christians are not promised a rose-petaled pathway; they will have trials and tribulations, pain, suffering, and sickness just like anybody else. Yet they have the blessed assurance that whatever they go through, the Lord is with them and they are not alone. Les warns that too many people are totally unconcerned, content to say they are Christians who will not go to hell but heaven, and leave it there—but that is not what God wants. He illustrates this with a communist factory worker who, after work, went to communist headquarters and worked for the party until 10 or 11 at night, with family and everything second to his love and pushing of communism. Les thought that if Christians would even come close to that devotion, the world would be different.
