What is our assurance of heaven based on — our good works or Christ's finished work?
Our assurance of heaven rests entirely on Christ's finished work, not our good works. His blood, presented in glory, is the eternal testimony of why believers will be in glory. He is our propitiation, the sacrifice, the mercy seat and its blood, so believers can know.
Les teaches that the believer's assurance is not based on what we do in good works or anything else, but all upon the finished work of Christ. In the context, the blood presented in the very throne room of heaven becomes an eternal testimony. If someone asks why we are there, the stock answer is, “There sits the blood.” That is why a pastor can preach at a believer's funeral that the person is in heaven: the book says you are to know. The reason we can know is that Christ is our propitiation, the one who was the sacrifice, our brazen altar, our labor of cleansing, our candlestick, not only the mercy seat but the blood of the mercy seat, not only the God of mercy but the sacrifice.
