Is our salvation security based on what we do or on what Christ did on the cross?
Salvation security rests entirely on the finished work of Christ on the cross, not on human effort, merit, or works. Believers are secure because of what He has done, and nothing—tribulation, distress, persecution, famine, nakedness, peril, or sword—can separate them from God's love.
Les explains from Romans 8 that persecution, distress, famine, nakedness, peril, or sword cannot force a believer out of his place in the body of Christ. He emphasizes that we are secure because of the work of the cross, not because of what we have done or merit. Assurance is never maintained by who we are or what we are; everything keeping us secure is the finished work of Christ. Paul himself faced nakedness, cold, thirst, and the Roman sword, yet none of these separated him from the love of God.
Who shall lay any thing to the charge of God’s elect? It is God that justifieth.
