What happened as soon as the tabernacle was set up and everything was in place?
A cloud covered the tent of the congregation, and the glory of the Lord filled the tabernacle. Moses could not enter the tent because the cloud, the presence of God, abode on it. This same cloud had earlier protected Israel at the Red Sea.
Les explains that the whole tabernacle complex was now complete, set up, and ready for the institution of their worship. As soon as the tabernacle was set up and everything was in place, a cloud covered the tent of the congregation, and the glory of the Lord, or of Jehovah, filled the tabernacle. Moses was not able to enter the tent of the congregation. Les notes that this place was only going to be left for the priest, and even Moses, great man that he was in God's service, could not go in now. Once everything was set, and once the cloud—which was the very presence of the glory of God—was there, Moses could not enter, because the cloud, the presence of God, called the Shekinah glory in other places, abode thereon, and the glory of the Lord filled the tabernacle. Les reminds us that this is the same cloud that first appeared when they were coming out of Goshen and encamped on the shores of the Red Sea. It protected them from the onslaught of the Egyptians; to the Egyptians it became black darkness, but to the Jews it was His protection, and at night it became the pillar of fire. This same cloud now comes and rests over the Holy of Holies, where the Ark of the Covenant is, and it literally fills that little back room of the tabernacle.
Then a cloud covered the tent of the congregation, and the glory of the LORD filled the tabernacle.
