What happened to the tabernacle after Israel entered the Promised Land?

The tabernacle was taken into the Promised Land and for years sat as a temporary little tent north of Jerusalem. It remained until God gave David, and then Solomon, permission to build a permanent dwelling place, which was Solomon's Temple.

Les explains that after the tabernacle was finished and the Shekinah glory came down upon it, whenever the glory lifted and moved, the Israelites took down the tabernacle and followed it. They carried it through the 40 years of wilderness into the Promised Land. For years afterward it just sat up there as a temporary little tent north of Jerusalem, until God gave David, and then through his son Solomon, permission to build a permanent dwelling place for their God—Solomon's Temple. This was all part of the giving of the Law to Israel.
