Les Feldick Bible Study

How is the whole system of law divided?

The whole system of law is divided into the moral law, which is the Ten Commandments, and the civil law. The civil law covered matters such as a bull trampling another's grain, requiring compensation, and other wrongs done among the people.

In this Exodus study, Les explains that because man being what he is, even Israel, would shortly break the law, God had to give not only the Ten Commandments but the whole system of law. Les breaks it down into the moral law, which is the Ten Commandments, and then the civil law. The civil law included cases like a bull getting out and trampling down someone else's grain, for which there had to be a system of compensation, and if someone did someone wrong, that was all part of the civil law.
