What are the three parts of the law?
The law consists of three parts: the moral law, commonly called the Ten Commandments; the ecclesiastical law, governing worship; and the civil law. These were given to Israel after their deliverance from Egypt and gathering at Mount Sinai. They cover moral conduct, worship practices, and civil matters.
Les teaches that the law was basically in three parts. The first is the moral law, normally referred to as the Ten Commandments. The second is the ecclesiastical law, or the law associated with Israel's worship. The third part is the civil law. This comes as Israel is gathered around Mount Sinai after coming out of Egypt and crossing the Red Sea. Moses is about to go up into the Mount and receive the Ten Commandments and the rest of the law. Les emphasizes that the difference between law and grace is a major area of confusion, so he takes time to explain it before continuing in Genesis.
In the third month, when the children of Israel were gone forth out of the land of Egypt, the same day came they into the wilderness of Sinai.
