Would a man who truly loves a woman try to bring her into immorality?
No. True love, as Paul defines it, is not erotic or Hollywood love but a love that seeks the other person's highest good. A young man dating a woman with her highest good in mind would not try to bring her into an immoral state.
Les teaches that Paul is not talking about erotic love or Hollywood's idea of love. Instead, he defines real love as seeking the other person's highest good. If young people in courting and dating kept that uppermost in their minds, the moral shambles of today would not exist. A young man dating a lovely girl, if he had her highest good in mind, would not try to bring her into an immoral state. The same applies to a husband and wife or a neighbor with a neighbor: doing whatever we do for the other person's highest good fulfills the whole law. Yet Les notes this cannot be done merely on the basis of commanding, because we never really grow up.
