Les Feldick Bible Study

Why did God create people if He already had angels to populate the universe?

God created people because, although He already had angels sufficient to populate the universe, they lacked the capability to return His extended love. Humanity was made with the capacity to reciprocate God's love, fulfilling a relational purpose that angels could not. This reflects His plan for the ages.

Les explains that God already had angels, and they were enough to populate all of the universe, but they did not possess the capability of returning His extended love. Therefore, God created people to have someone who could respond to His love. This relational purpose connects to the marriage relationship, which Les says we will see in Ephesians. Jesus summarized the law as loving God with all the heart, soul, and mind, and loving one's neighbor as oneself. Les ties the first five commandments to loving God, and he places the father and mother within those first five because the home is part and parcel of God's whole plan for the ages. So humanity's creation is rooted in God's desire for a creature capable of returning His love.
