Les Feldick Bible Study

What does it mean that the young ones of the cow and bear shall lie down together?

It means the cow and the bear will feed together in the same locale, and their young will lie down together rather than staying in separate areas watching one another. This depicts former enemies cohabiting in peace, with carnivores eating provender—forage or grasses—like cattle.

Les explains that the animal kingdom as we know it today is in total opposition—a lion would eat a lamb—but in this scene they lie down together. The cow and bear feed together in the same locale, and their young ones lie down together, not in separate areas eyeing one another. The secret is that these carnivorous animals of prey will eat provender, that is, forage, grasses, and herbs, so the lion eats like an ox or cattle. A child is in their midst, and Les directs listeners to compare Scripture with Scripture, going back to Genesis chapter 1.
