What advice did Jethro give Moses about judging the people?

Jethro told Moses that he could not judge all the people's disputes by himself. He warned that doing so would wear Moses away, and he advised Moses to set up a system for handling their problems instead of one man carrying the whole load.

Les explains that Jethro, Moses' Midianite father-in-law, saw the multitude of Israelites besieging Moses with one problem after another. Jethro asked why Moses sat alone while all the people stood by him from morning, and Moses replied that the people came to inquire of God and that he judged between them and made known God's statutes and laws. Jethro said the thing Moses was doing was not good, that it would surely wear him away and was too much. Therefore he told Moses to set up a system of dealing with their problems rather than doing it all alone.

Exodus 18:14
