What did Moses think of Jethro's advice?

Moses took Jethro's advice for what it was worth, which was not much. The counsel was natural and of the flesh, lacking the spiritual empowerment God later revealed. God then provided His own way: empowering seventy men with the Spirit to bear the burden with Moses.

Les teaches that Jethro came on the scene with a high moral example, no doubt, but it was natural, of the flesh. Moses let his father-in-law depart, taking his advice for what it was worth, which wasn't much. It wasn't long after that God came back and said this is the way we're going to do it: He would come down, take of the Spirit upon Moses, and put it upon the seventy men, so they would bear the burden of the people with him, and he would not bear it alone. Les points out the difference between Jethro's natural counsel and God's spiritual empowerment of the seventy.

Exodus 18:27

And Moses let his father in law depart; and he went his way into his own land.
