Why has God given us the power of prayer?

God gave prayer so believers can now speak with Him, praise Him, and petition Him. Because Christ was smitten once for our offenses and rose victorious over sin and death, we appropriate these things not by another smiting but by speaking to Him in fellowship and communication.

Les teaches that Christ first had to suffer, die, and be smitten for our offenses—but only once, as the Hebrew word emphasizes. After He arose victorious over sin and death, we no longer appropriate anything by another crucifixion. Instead, we appropriate it through fellowship, speaking, and communication. That is why God has given us the whole power of prayer: we can now speak with Him, praise Him, and petition Him, not through another smiting but by speaking to Him. Les illustrates this with Moses striking the rock in Numbers instead of speaking to it, showing you do not smite Christ twice.
