What does manna represent for us today?
Manna represents the very bread of God, pointing to Jesus Christ as the bread of life. In John's Gospel, Jesus spoke of Himself as the living bread and the living water. Today, manna signifies that God provides spiritual sustenance through Christ.
Les explains that Israel lived on manna for 40 years after God rained bread from heaven. In the Exodus passage, God told Moses He would test the people by whether they walked in His law. The practical application for us today is that manna is the very bread of God. Jesus in John's Gospel spoke of Himself as the bread of life—'I am the living bread'—and He is also the living water. Thus manna represents Christ as our spiritual sustenance from heaven.
I am the living bread which came down from heaven: if any man eat of this bread, he shall live for ever: and the bread that I will give is my flesh, which I will give for the life of the world.
