Why can't a Christian just stay on the spiritual mountaintop?
A Christian cannot stay on the spiritual mountaintop because no work is accomplished there. The mountaintop is for seeing the view and feeling exhilaration, but the work must be done down in the valley. Christian experience requires getting into the valley’s dirt, grime, trials, tribulations, and disappointments.
Les explains that a mountaintop experience thrills a believer and offers a beautiful view and the exhilaration of high-altitude air, but nothing is accomplished there. The work has to be done down in the valley. He says this is always true of Christian experience: you may have a mountaintop experience, but don’t try to stay there. You must get down into the dirt and grime of the valley, where trials, tribulations, and disappointments come.
