What happens to the believer as soon as this body stops functioning?
The believer receives a new, far better body—one that is immortal, never again experiencing pain, sickness, or cold. As soon as this body stops functioning, they are clothed upon with immortality. This new body is not subject to death and is a glorious prospect for the believer.
Les teaches that believers are not looking forward to being unclothed—having the soul and spirit separated from the body—but to being clothed upon with a new body. As soon as this body quits functioning and is no longer necessary, the believer receives a new one, far better, that will never again have pain, sickness, or a cold. Les explains that this mortal body, whether young, old, or in between, will suddenly be gone, and we will be clothed with immortality. He calls this a glorious prospect that is coming soon.
For we that are in this tabernacle do groan, being burdened: not for that we would be unclothed, but clothed upon, that mortality might be swallowed up of life.
