What part of us goes on into eternity?

The immaterial part of a person—the mind, will, emotions, and personality—is the real self that continues into eternity. It dwells temporarily in the earthly body, pictured as a tent. When that body dissolves, the eternal self is not stopped; it receives a permanent, eternal dwelling from God in the heavens.

Les teaches from 2 Corinthians 5 that the earthly house or tabernacle is the body of flesh, a temporary tent. The real person—the invisible mind, will, emotions, and personality—dwells inside it. That inner self is eternal and goes on into eternity. The earthly tabernacle will dissolve and return to the earth unless the rapture changes it. Rather than a tent, the believer has a building of God, a house not made with hands, eternal in the heavens.

2 Corinthians 5:1

For we know that if our earthly house of this tabernacle were dissolved, we have a building of God, an house not made with hands, eternal in the heavens.
