Is salvation a process or an event?

Salvation is an event, not a process. It is an instantaneous, one-time event, while Christian growth and Bible understanding are processes. God saves the sinner who believes Christ died for sins and rose again, translating them from darkness to light, forgiving and justifying them instantaneously.

Les teaches that salvation is not a process but an event—an instantaneous, one-time event. He contrasts it with Christian growth and Bible understanding, which are processes. The gospel is simple: Christ died for our sins, was buried, and rose again according to the Scriptures. There is no prescribed ritual or particular way; one can believe at the kitchen sink, driving down the road, or waking in the middle of the night. God does all the rest: He saves us, sets our feet on a rock, and begins to open up the Scriptures so we comprehend the truth from cover to cover. Salvation happens instantaneously—translated from darkness to light, knowing sin's forgiven and being justified. Les notes it is never taught in this age of grace that we must beg God to forgive us our sins.
