How long after 1 Corinthians was 2 Corinthians written, and why does that matter?

2 Corinthians was probably written a matter of months, less than a year, after 1 Corinthians. That timing matters because it allowed the Corinthians time to address the problems Paul had written about, and 2 Corinthians indicates many of those issues were corrected, showing the first letter was not ignored.

Les explains that the second letter was probably written a matter of months, at least less than a year, after the first letter. He says this matters because enough time had elapsed for the Corinthians to clean up their act and deal with the problems, and evidently they had done so. In 2 Corinthians Paul seems to give the idea that many of these things were now corrected, showing his first letter did not fall on deaf ears. Les also notes that the first six chapters and ten verses of 2 Corinthians largely deal with Paul's defense of his apostleship.
