How will Jesus return according to Acts 1?
According to Acts 1, the same physical, spiritual Jesus who was taken up into heaven while the disciples beheld Him, with a cloud receiving Him out of their sight, will return in like manner as He was seen going. He ascended head first and will come back feet first, visibly and bodily.
Les explains from Acts 1 that the ascension took place on the Mount of Olives with the eleven, after the Lord's forty days of resurrection experience had ended. Verse 9 says that while they beheld, He was taken up, and a cloud received Him out of their sight. Two men in white apparel then asked why they stood gazing into heaven and declared that this same Jesus, the physical, spiritual Jesus taken up from them into heaven, shall so come in like manner as they had seen Him go. Les puts it in a lighter vein: He went head first, and He is going to come back feet first. The context also stresses that His resurrection body was physical, flesh and bone, and that He walked, talked, ate, and let them see His wounds.
Which also said, Ye men of Galilee, why stand ye gazing up into heaven? this same Jesus, which is taken up from you into heaven, shall so come in like manner as ye have seen him go into heaven.
