What happens to the soul and spirit at death?

At death, the soul and spirit are separated from the physical body. The body remains unredeemed and prone to sin, but the Holy Spirit is the earnest of inheritance until the redemption of the purchased possession, assuring the body's future redemption.

Les teaches from Ephesians 1:13-14 that believers are sealed with the Holy Spirit of promise, who is the earnest or down payment of our inheritance until the redemption of the purchased possession. He notes that the body is not yet redeemed; it is still in the flesh and prone to pain, accidents, and sin like the unbeliever. At death, the soul and spirit will be separated from this physical body. The down payment assures that even this physical body will ultimately be redeemed.
